Lifestyle and Amenities in NoMa/H Street Corridor
Best known for its nightlife, the H Street Corridor contains such attractions as the HR-57 Center for the Preservation of Jazz & Blues, a weekly farmer’s market, and the annual H Street Festival, along with a prolific theatre scene. Restaurants such as Toki Underground, Maketto and a new outpost of the city’s iconic Ben’s Chili Bowl are part of the hip scene in the H Street Corridor. There is also a plan to resurrect the streetcar that once ran through the neighborhood. The NoMa area began its redevelopment with the 2004 opening of the NoMa-Galludet U station, and includes many summer attractions such as the NoMa Summer Screen, a free outdoor film festival, as well as free summer outdoor concerts. The NoMa/H Street Corridor area is close in proximity to Union Station, and features access to several Capital Bikeshare stations. In the interest of further developing the area, the D.C. Government has dedicated $50 million for the development of parks, playgrounds, and greenspace in the neighborhood. Upcoming parks include The Tracks Park, a 1.7 acre site adjacent to the railroad tracks with overlooks for observing trains, and L Street Plaza, a proposed gathering area for festivals, exhibits, and outdoor dining to be set up as a pedestrian street.
